Terrorism The Taliban’s top military commander told ABC News he has 500 suicide bombers at his disposal (Friedmen). The Taliban use this to scare us and win the war in Iraq. Terrorism is violence or threat of violence used to achieve a political goal. Terrorism is not wrong because our country uses it, people view it differently, and it is less taxing than conventional warfare. Terrorism is not wrong, it is how and who uses it. Our country uses terrorism everyday. The United States’ embargo against Iraqi has caused extreme suffering, in towns of malnutrition and heath conditions, but not for Iraqi’s ruling elite but for Iraqi’s people (Hornberger). The embargo has helped by causing Iraqi’s people wanting a change and will push for a change in government. This form of terrorism is powerful because it helps to discourage retaliation. Another way our country uses terrorism is with the bombing campaigns in Somalia. People also view terrorism differently. In Iraqi the terrorists believe they are fighting a holy war and dying for Allah is a win-win situation (Terrorism). To these fighters or even to the minutemen of the Revolutionary War, believe they were fighting for freedom. To us these fighters are terrorists and bad people. Terrorism is also good in the sense it is less taxing then conventional warfare. Terrorism uses guerilla tactics. They ambush, set traps and bomb targets where there is a good chance of escaping detection or capture (Hornberger). With guerilla warfare small groups can over come larger groups and make huge impacts with little loss and causalities to there own forces. Visionaries like Sun Tzu have wrote and used these tactics throughout history. Even our minutemen at Lexington used these tactics to hold back the British Terrorism is not wrong because every country uses it; it’s viewed differently and is a great form of warfare. Terrorism is not wrong if used the right way for national security. Even if people do not believe we use terrorism, we do. That is why terrorism is not bad.
